Popular dance reality show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa”, which aired on entertainment channel Sony since 2006, has now been acquired by Colors, which has already signed up dancing diva Madhuri Dixit as one of the judges for the upcoming season of the celebrity-based show.
The show, inspired by international show “Dancing With The Stars”, saw Madhuri on the judges’ panel in its fourth season too. But that time, she was busy travelling between India and the US, where her family – her husband, and two kids – was then settled.
The actress has now shifted base back to India, and is expected to be more relaxed on the sets as she doesn’t have to think of travelling far away after every shooting schedule, said a source.
The upcoming season on Colors will get a ‘colourful’ makeover too, and the channel hopes to give it a metamorphosis in terms of style and look.
“Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” has so far gone through four seasons. It features celebrities and well-known faces, who train with professional dance partners and perform various styles of dancing. The judges panel usually consists of three, but the other two judges are yet to be formally announced.
Chances are choreographer-director Remo D’Souza will also be seen as a repeat on the panel this season.
Colors now acquires Jhalak Dikhla Jaa after Screen Awards
Close on the heels of acquisition of Screen Awards this year, Colors has not acquired the telecast rights of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa – Dancing with the Stars, the biggest dance reality show on television. Produced by BBC Worldwide Productions India, the fifth season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa will continue to bring together budding choreographers and celebrities from different walks of life like movies, television, sports, etc. The exchange of knowledge about different dance forms that help to evolve the contestants is the USP of the show.

MUMBAI: Fifth Season of the popular dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’, will be aired on Colors instead of Sony Entertainment television. Colors have reportedly bought the rights of the show produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. The first four seasons of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, was aired on Sony Entertainment Television.

However, dancing diva Madhuri Dixit is in talks to judge the Season 5 of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, but says nothing has been finalised yet. ‘Talks are on for season five. Once we are through and once we decide to do it, I’ll let you know,’ said Madhuri.
Madhuri to judge ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’
Last year Madhuri Dixit Nene was a big draw at the dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’ along with Malaika Arora Khan and Remo D’souza. Now, apparently, the actress has agreed to be a judge on the show this year as well.
However, the show, which was with Sony till the last season has changed channels and will be aired on Colors instead. While it has still not been confirmed whether Malaika and Remo will reprise their roles, Madhuri, sources say, is excited about her judging duties.
Moreover, the makers are relieved that Madhuri has shifted to India. Last year, she had to leave for the US after every shoot schedule which often caused problems for the producers.
With no films being announced yet with Mads in the lead, we think she has made a good choice to stick to reality shows as a judge – after all it’s about big money and a lot of exposure!
